Women in Cycling
During my research into cycling culture, I came across the story of Mrs Elliott, a remarkable woman who cycled over 18,000 miles in 1908, long before women had the right to vote. What fascinated me most was the clothing she wore throughout her journey: a long skirt, bonnet, and knitted jersey, which she credited for helping her complete the challenge.
Inspired by her story, I set out to experience some of the challenges she may have faced as a cyclist of that era. To document the experiment, I designed an A2 fold-out publication that combined historical research with my own experiences.
Visually, I blended vintage photography with contemporary editorial design, using pink and white paper stocks alongside blue ink to create a modern interpretation of a historical story. The result was a tactile publication that celebrated both Mrs Elliott's achievements and the evolution of cycling culture.
